The Victim Service Awards recognise the important contributions of individuals to victim support and the advancement of victims' rights.

Presented by Victims of Crime South Australia, the awards celebrate people who make a positive difference in the lives of victims of crime.

Nominations open: Monday 31 August
Nominations close: Friday 16 October at 5pm.

Finalists and award winners will be announced in November 2026.

Award categories

The Whitrod Award

Recognises an outstanding contribution to victim support and the advancement of victims’ rights through voluntary or unpaid service.

The Sumner Award

Recognises an outstanding contribution to victim support and the advancement of victims' rights through professional or paid service.

Conditions of entry

• Entrants must live and work in South Australia.
• Nominees must demonstrate an outstanding commitment to advocating for, supporting and improving outcomes for victims in the South Australian community.
• Nominations can be made by any individual (including self-nominations), or on  behalf of an organisation.
• Nominees must not have been found to have engaged in professional misconduct or be the subject of any discliplinary proceedings.

You will need to provide:

• the nominee’s contact details;
• details of the nominee’s actions and achievements;
• links to relevant media articles or other supporting information;
• details of at least one referee.

Selection of award recipients

• A panel established by the Commissioner for Victims' Rights will conduct the shortlisting process and the final selection.
• The decision will be final, and no correspondence will be entered into.
• Winners will be presented at the Victim Service Awards function in November 2026.

Awards history

Historically, outstanding contributions to victim support in South Australia were recognised through the Victim Support Service (VSS) Victim Service Worker of the Year Awards. Building on this proud legacy, Victims of Crime SA has established the Victim Service Awards to continue this important tradition of recognising individuals who make a meaningful difference in the lives of victims.

The awards celebrate dedication, compassion and excellence in supporting victims, highlighting the significant impact that victim service professionals, volunteers and advocates have across South Australia.

Through these awards, Victims of Crime SA honours those whose commitment helps victims feel heard, supported and empowered on their journey towards recovery.
