Our office provides information, advice and support to victims of crime, their families, and friends to ensure they are treated fairly by the criminal justice system in South Australia.

  • help victims in their dealings with prosecution authorities and government agencies.

  • change a decision made by a judge, magistrate, or tribunal member
  • direct police to investigate or prosecute
  • investigate a complaint that is already being investigated by another organisation
  • investigate a complaint not covered by the Victims of Crime Act 2001.

Do you have a compensation enquiry?

Victims of Crime SA does not handle compensation claims or determine eligibility.

We can only provide general information about the compensation process.

Lodge an enquiry

Before you begin

To complete the online enquiry form you will need to provide certain information, including:

  • information about yourself
  • if you are making the enquiry on behalf of another person, their information
  • details of what has occurred
  • the police report number (SAP number, if known), if the crime was reported to the police.

If you provide your consent in the enquiry form, we may liaise with appropriate third-party agencies, such as South Australia Police, if it will help resolve your enquiry.

If we require additional information to provide an answer to your enquiry, we may contact you via phone or email during business hours.

If we can’t help you with your enquiry, we may provide you the contact details of another agency who might be able to assist.

What happens next?

Victims of Crime SA will assess your enquiry to determine if we can provide you with information, referrals or assistance.

Sometimes we may find that your enquiry can't be addressed by Victims of Crime SA. If we cannot help with your enquiry, we will tell you and provide you the reasons why.

We aim to respond to you regarding your enquiry within 3 working days.
